MY BIRTHDAY PARTY WHERE DAVID AND KATHY HOOKED UP
David, My Sister Jaynie, and David’s Dad Jim
Kathy suggested they go to Isla together. David was initially a bit nervous about Mexico but fell in love with Isla. He asked if she had ever thought about buying property there and she said she had. He told if it didn’t work out with them she should still buy something there.
One of the pictures they took on that trip was Kathy standing on the back porch of our future home. They really were attracted to Punta Sur.

*We discovered this picture months later in the stash of photos they were sharing with us!
Next thing I know they were married and I’m at their house in Nashville and everyone is talking about buying property, building houses or buying condos in Isla! Of course, I thought they were outta their heads. They bought a lot on Punta Sur with hopes of building a house in a few years.

They finally convinced us to go down there with them on a vacation in February 2007. We stayed at Casa de las Suenos and thought it was great.
A PICTURE OF OUR ENTRY FROM THE GUEST BOOK AT SUENOS
It rained almost everyday and we slept and read and well...you know the rest. Our friends thought we would be disappointed because of the weather but we loved it! We felt completely relaxed and disconnected from the wired world.
SUENOS
Roberto Lavia said we should think about a place on the island like Kathy and David were. I told Robby to keep an eye open for something, but didn't really take it that seriously.

Roberto ended up calling me a few months later and said a house was for sale on Punta Sur but I had to close quickly. Some folks had been trying to buy it for a while but couldn't close. We quickly signed a contract and then realized it wasn’t the house we thought it was!! We thought the house for sale was Casa Roca Lisa.

CASA ROCA LISA - NOT CASA VAYA VIDA (OR JAY'S HOUSE TO SOME)
Turns out it the house for sale was second house built on Punta Sur and was in disrepair from one of the hurricanes. Casa Roca Lisa was the first circa early 2000's.

Anyway, buying in Mexico is not for the feint of heart, but we plowed ahead. Carried a stupid amount of cash through customs in the form of a cashiers check - declared it - and got pulled aside to be interrogated! I don’t know if they thought I was crazier for buying or bringing in the cash!!! We closed in a couple of days.
CLOSING!
The next day we had a builder, Oscar, and our friend Kathy was our designer. Oscar had just finished a home on the Caribbean side and started immediately. He did a fantastic job and is one of our dearest friends on the island.

6 months later we had Casa Vaya Vida ("What a Life!"). Coming up with a name was an entirely different challenge (for another post!). We have made life long friends from Mexico and the US through the little island.
Kathy and David finished their lovely house last year "Vista Alegre del Sur."
VISTA ALGRE DEL SUR FROM THE BACK
There is now a huge Nashville contingent in Isla!! We come down as much as possible and enjoy every moment.

Our kids also love coming down and enjoying the mystical nature of Punta Sur - the eastern most point in Mexico.
